The discovery of fission of heavy atomic nuclei gave Otto Hahn a much-discussed Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 1945.

His co-workers Lise Meitner and Fritz Strassmann did not share the prize.

I will briefly tell the story of the discovery and focus on the way the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences handled the question of the Nobel Prize.
